The immune system is one of the most remarkable forces on earth! On any given day your immune system successfully destroys thousands of harmful pathogen and viruses and you don't even know it is happening. However, when the immune system is weakened due to vitamin deficiencies and stress it is not able to function as it should and that is when sickness occurs.
Your body has been designed to protect you from sickness and disease but it must have the proper food and nutrition to do its job properly and keep you healthy. Sadly, this is difficult in a world where we consume large amounts of junk food and empty calories which are void of valuable nutrients and vitamins. Add in stress, lack of sleep, and low amounts of water intake and the immune system is rendered disabled at best.
So, how do you supply your immune system with everything that it needs to keep you healthy? The answer is a healthy diet and lifestyle. Getting adequate hydration from good quality water, 7 to 9 hours of good quality sleep, and lots of real, whole food is essential. Plant based foods are loaded with vitamins and nutrients that your body needs to function at its best. Organic fresh vegetables and fruit and good quality organic protein are great sources of essential vitamins and nutrients that your body needs everyday. Your body was not designed to thrive on empty, processed foods but on whole, living foods that provide life to all of your cells , especially your immune cells. A well nourished body supports a healthy immune response that can fight off any virus or sickness.
With that said, there are times when eating quality food and getting the right amount of sleep, proper hydration, and exercise that our bodies need extra support. For example, during flu season or other virus outbreaks, your body needs a little extra help. Supplements should never take the place of whole, fresh, living foods. As their name implies, they should "supplement" an already healthy diet and lifestyle.
Vitamin D plays multiple roles in the body and assists in:
promoting healthy bones and teeth
supporting immune, brain, and nervous system health
supporting lung function and cardiovascular health
influencing the expression of genes involved in cancer development.
When taking vitamin D add some magnesium for maximum absorption. The body uses magnesium to uptake or absorb vitamin D properly.
Zinc is a trace element that is essential for regulating the immune system.
Zinc is a mineral that's essential for good health.
It’s required for the functions of over 300 enzymes and involved in many important processes in your body (1Trusted Source).
It metabolizes nutrients, maintains your immune system and grows and repairs body tissues.
Your body doesn’t store zinc, so you need to eat enough every day to ensure you’re meeting your daily requirements (2Trusted Source).
Taking a good quality form of zinc such as zinc glycinate in small amounts daily boosts immune health tremendously.
Foods that contain zinc are nuts, seeds-especially pumpkin seeds, whole grains, grass-fed beef, lentils, eggs and beans.
Consuming these foods daily is a great way to boost zinc levels naturally.
Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid and ascorbate, is a vitamin found in various foods and sold as a dietary supplement. Vitamin C is an essential nutrient involved in the repair of tissue and the enzymatic production of certain neurotransmitters. It is required for the functioning of several enzymes and is important for immune system function. It also functions as an antioxidant. High dose vitamin C is being used successfully to treat a wide range of illnesses from the common cold to CoVid19 and even cancer! Eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies and if supplementing make sure to use a liposomal form which is much easier on the stomach and much more easily absorbed by the cells.
YOUR immune system is your body's weapon of choice against any virus or sickness.
Take good care of your immune system and it will take good care of you!
